My antivirus is asking if I should renew. Do I? Print

Commercials on TV are offering you FREE Norton or McAfee to protect your systems if you subscribe to AT&T DSL or Comcast cable. These products are worth the cost at which they are being given to you; I like to re-phrase it as “free from protection.”

At Fast Break Tech, we solve two to five viral infections per day, and in all cases, these systems are using a product outside our current recommendation.

Each year, Cnet.com performs a review of antivirus solutions. These reviews test the quality of the protection suites on the market with regard to effectiveness, speed reduction, ease of use, customer support and cost.

We take these results, test them in our shop and make our recommendation for the year. Our clients are accustomed to asking us, “Should I renew my antivirus?”, because they know we will point them in the best direction for the coming year.

In 2008-2009 we recommended AVG; In 2010-2011 we are recommending Kaspersky Antivirus. Licenses may be purchased in 3-packs for $59.95, or for businesses with a server we have a managed solution to implement in packs of 5, 10, 15 or 20 users.
